The Berger Gruppe develops and manufactures high-precision CNC-controlled grinding machines as well as fully automated robotic cells for safety-critical applications in the defence industry. These include manufacturing processes for precision components used in defence technology, ballistic systems and high-stress mechanical assemblies. Out of 80–110 new systems per year, 10–12 are completely new machine types or innovative production processes specifically tailored to the requirements of military manufacturing standards.
As a certified robot system provider for ABB and KUKA, the company utilises state-of-the-art robot technology – both for automated component feeding and for precise machining and tool guidance. Sophisticated feeding technology plays a central role here, as components often feature complex geometries or safety-critical tolerances. The development of robust supply systems and interfaces to downstream process steps therefore constitutes a key area of expertise.
The use of advanced measurement systems such as 3D scanners and laser measurement technology enables high-precision, non-contact component feeding from the production line without mechanical pre-orientation. Current developments in digitalisation and networked production also enable Industry 4.0-compatible interfaces with integrated sensor technology, advanced signal evaluation and the integration of autonomous transport systems – for fully digitalised, traceable and maximally secure manufacturing in the defence sector.
