At EURO DEFENCE EXPO 2026, Training Base Weeze will use a simulated helicopter crash in a military operational environment to demonstrate how different response teams and technologies work together in a complex scenario.
Visitors will experience how reconnaissance, hazard assessment, technical rescue and pre-hospital emergency care interact under time pressure. The focus is not on individual technologies, but on their integration into tactical procedures and the cooperation between command personnel and various response teams. As an international training and professional development centre for civil protection, Training Base Weeze develops and tests realistic operational scenarios. The demonstration will provide practical insight into the requirements of coordinated disaster response and civil protection operations.

Scenario
The scenario simulates the crash of a helicopter with two pilots and cargo on board. In a field of debris, the rescue team works its way towards the aircraft and gains access through an emergency hatch using heavy rescue equipment. The pilot and co-pilot are then rescued from the helicopter and transported away in the emergency vehicle.
Hands-on door-opening station
At a training door, visitors can try for themselves how emergency services open locked doors. The level of difficulty can be adjusted to suit individual ability. Under expert guidance, various rescue tools such as cutters, spreaders, the Halligan tool and a ram are used.
