40 Years Vision Engineering Germany

40 Years Vision Engineering Germany

Four decades of Vision Engineering Germany – precision, innovation and ergonomic microscopy since 1986

Vision Engineering Germany is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The German sales and service office of the international Vision Engineering Group was established in May 1986 and has since grown to become a well-established partner for industrial microscopy, optical metrology and digital inspection solutions in German-speaking countries and other parts of Central Europe.

In the mid-1980s, the British headquarter, under the leadership of its founder Rob Freeman, decided to establish and open a German branch near Munich in order to meet the already high demand for optical inspection systems in the German market and neighbouring countries, particularly within the electronics industry.

Starting out in a small office in a residential area of a small town, the company moved into its own new premises in 1992 – which it still occupies today – to accommodate its ever-increasing space requirements, with dedicated areas for sales, service and warehousing.

A significant boost to the company’s international profile was achieved with the development and launch of the Mantis eyepiece-free stereo microscope in 1994, which is now regarded as the ‘industry standard’ for low-magnification applications.

For four decades, Vision Engineering Central Europe has been synonymous with innovative technologies, expert consultancy and practical solutions for demanding industrial sectors. The company serves clients in sectors such as electronics, medical technology, the automotive industry, aerospace, precision engineering, plastics technology, and research and development.

Vision Engineering is particularly well known for its ergonomic stereo microscopes without traditional eyepieces, which have set new global standards in visual inspection. Through continuous product development and state-of-the-art digital systems, the company has been responding for years to the growing demands of quality assurance, precision measurement and efficient work processes.

In addition to serving the German-speaking market, Vision Engineering Germany is now also responsible for numerous Eastern European countries – from Poland to Bulgaria. In these markets, the company works primarily with long-standing distribution partners whilst continuing to expand its direct presence. By gradually appointing its own country managers, Vision Engineering is responding to the ever-growing potential and rising demand in Eastern Europe.

“Vision Engineering Germany’s 40th anniversary stands for long-term customer relationships, technological innovation and the dedication of our team,” the company explains. “We would like to thank our customers, partners and employees for the trust they have placed in us and for our successful collaboration over many years.”

Today, Vision Engineering Germany operates nationwide through its sales offices and service centres and is part of a global group of companies with an international presence. In addition to supplying high-quality microscopy and measurement systems, the company places particular emphasis on personalised advice, application support and technical service.

The company intends to continue building on its position as an innovative solutions provider and to drive forward new developments in the fields of digital microscopy, automated measurement systems and ergonomic workplace solutions.

About Vision Engineering

For over 65 years, the Vision Engineering Group has been developing and manufacturing innovative optical and digital magnification systems, as well as precision measurement solutions for industrial applications. Headquartered in the UK, the company operates internationally and is represented in numerous countries through its own branches and distribution partners. The German branch has been serving customers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and across much of Eastern Europe since 1986.

New Edge Series measurement systems

New Edge Series measurement systems

Vision Engineering expands its measurement technology portfolio with a new Edge series for manufacturing

With its new Edge series, Vision Engineering presents a compact range of optical measurement systems designed for modern manufacturing environments. The systems have been developed to meet the growing demand for fast, precise and non-contact measurements directly on the production line, bridging the gap between manual inspection and fully automated CNC measurement technology.

With increasing automation and the shift towards Industry 4.0 processes, quality control is increasingly moving away from the traditional metrology room and directly onto the production line. This is precisely where the Edge series comes in: the systems combine high measurement accuracy with a particularly compact design, enabling reliable inspection processes even where space is limited.

The new product range comprises three coordinated variants designed to meet a variety of automation and throughput requirements. Edge APEX is a fully automatic 3-axis CNC system designed for rapid series testing and high-volume production. A motorised zoom enables flexible measurement of a wide variety of features without changing lenses. Edge VISTA offers automated 2-axis measurement technology with motorised focus and has been specially developed for flat and rotationally symmetrical turned parts. For rapid individual measurements and production checks directly on the machine, Edge CORE provides a manual solution that allows for simple operation without the need for extensive training.

Technologically, the Edge series is based on a completely new platform designed with a focus on productivity and process reliability. High-quality, perfectly matched optics and cameras ensure precise edge detection and consistent measurement results. This is complemented by advanced image stitching functions, which allow even larger components outside the actual field of view to be fully documented and analysed.

“Manufacturers today are under increasing pressure to make their quality processes both more efficient and more precise,” explains Stefan Summer, Head of Marketing & Communications at Vision Engineering Central Europe. “With the Edge series, we offer a scalable solution that makes it easier for companies to get started with automated optical metrology, whilst also providing scope for future growth.”

The Edge series is aimed in particular at companies in the precision engineering, medical technology, electronics and plastics processing sectors that are looking for a high-performance yet space-saving solution for quality assurance.
